A rich and inspiring poem by one of our Vedanta students, Timur Torgautov, which covers the different dimensions of maturity one can cultivate to grow as a person and be ready to bring together the vision of oneness. Timur composed and recited this poem during our last retreat in Rishikesh, on the banks of Ganga.

The vision of truth is quite easy to see
Just master your mind and you’ll be set free

To master the mind? Oh, it’s simple to do!
Just need to develop a value… or two

These values, my friend, are not meant to advise,
They’re truths we can see, and through which we grow wise

Though Truth neither senses nor science can reach,
Us teachers who studied this Knowledge can teach
For I, Cause, their kinship are Truth’s true import
Not objects, yet present! Perception falls short

Objective we need to become in our acts
Loving ourselves and accepting life’s facts
We’ll do this when Isvara’s Order we see
In all beings and objects, in you and in me

Through shirt, cloth, to thread, atom, concept, It’s here,
The knowledge and power that makes all appear
Putting together all objects, all thoughts
At all levels present, yet free of all knots

Appropriate actions earn us Its grace
Act against dharma? Like fruits we shall face
Accommodate others, accommodate you
By seeing there’re causes behind all we do

Emotions don’t label, for they are like rain
Of Nature they come, and Its laws they obey
These loads of emotion, as Order please view,
They’ll lighten and leave, through objective review

Be honest and kind in thought, word and deed
From conflicts and guilt your heart will be freed
Desires are natural, they’re quite alright
Fulfill them with dharma and you’ll see the light

When helpless, acknowledge it, for it’s the truth
A wealth of unknowns in each action we choose
Through grace and with prayer proactively deal
With lacks, with obstructions, with factors concealed

As Isvara’s senior if you yourself take
Both blind and arrogant you’ll yourself make
Know – every glory, Its blessing requires!
Ignorance withers, as hubris expires

All knowledge all power is now and it’s here
connecting, supporting us, no need to fear
The world, minds, bodies, pervading them all
No separation ‘twixt us and the Whole

Your actions you choose, the results are It’s gifts,
When you understand this, your whole vision shifts
At peace then your heart and so true you’ll perceive
How all is in Order, why wise men don’t grieve
